Origins of Mother's Day

Mother's Day is celebrated every first Sunday in May, but... have you ever been told when this day began to be celebrated in our country? The first signs of celebration date back to 1330, with the brotherhoods in honour of the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception in Girona.

A few centuries later, in 1644, December 8 (Day of the Immaculate Conception) began to be a holiday in Spain and shared the same date of celebration as Mother's Day.

The change of date did not take place until 1965, when it was decided that Mother's Day would be celebrated on the first Sunday in May, this change is due in part to the fact that the month of May is the month of the Virgin Mary.
